What is Newman Catholic?
Catholic Campus Ministry at Ramapo College is composed of The Office of Campus Ministry, FOCUS, and Newman Catholic at Ramapo.  Newman Catholic is a student organization at Ramapo College and is dedicated to providing students with spiritual and social programming which will improve their college experience.
About Blessed John Henry Newman
Newman Catholic Campus Ministry is named after Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman.  In fact, many secular colleges and universities across the country have named their Catholic Campus Ministries after him.  Newman lived in the 19th century in England and spent a majority of his life working on college campuses.  He was a convert to Catholicism, a professor, and a very holy priest.
One of his many works, The Idea of the University, discusses how Universities are founded on students’ seeking a universal truth.  He explained that the beauty of the University was in those coming together from many different backgrounds for that one purpose. It is due to his many years of service to universities that so many Catholic Campus Ministry centers are named after him.  These centers provide a means for students to experience the Church on their individual campuses.  At Ramapo College, we do this through our many spiritual, social, and community service events.
About the Logo
The logo for Newman Catholic was designed by one of our students in the 2010-2011 academic year.
The triangle – symbolizes the Trinity (1 God, 3 Persons – Father, Son, Holy Spirit)
The colors – represent Ramapo College of NJ
The Cross – is a symbol of Christ’s conquering death and the central reason we believe in Him as our Lord.  The cross also symbolizes our call to follow Christ and bring His message to our campus and serve the Catholic Church He founded.
